Masyarakat Mandiri Dompet Dhuafa was established in 2005 with the aim of community development in Indonesia. With economic empowerment programmes targeted at street vendors, migrant workers, farmers, fishing villages, drop-outs and the unemployed, the group hopes to help people become more financially independent and improve their living standards.

The group has been awarded £5,000 for their economic development programme to help 30 fisherwomen in the Subadiri and Tangerang districts strengthen their marine food processing business.
