Celebrating our 20 years ….. Gordon Roddick

images3From the beginning we resolved to be different, be bold and wherever possible play an active part in the many organisations we supported. We took up issues that were prickly and unpopular. We helped to found and fund organisations that later on became independent and even entrepreneurial. The Big Issue and Children on the Edge are two that have endured and provided a considerable amount of help to many disadvantaged people and families.

“From the beginning we resolved to be different, be bold and wherever possible play an active part in the many organisations we supported. We took up issues that were prickly and unpopular. We helped to found and fund organisations that later on became independent and even entrepreneurial”

We campaigned in our shop windows and helped campaigning organisations such as Greenpeace and Amnesty, who have a reach and depth of research that made them highly effective. We supported many fledgling groups like Reprieve, Global Witness, National Labor Committee, who have matured into best in class in their particular field. We focused on Human, Civil and Environmental Rights, we were always strong on issues surrounding women’s rights and were never afraid to speak out.

We are proud at the Roddick Family Foundation to maintain our links and sometimes work together with the Body Shop Foundation. It has been quite a journey for the past twenty years and it is not over yet. Our roles are more important than ever in today’s society. Extreme poverty still exists and human rights abuse is greater now than ever. So now more than ever we need to be bold and imaginative in finding solutions and helping the neediest people in this world.
