Results: 20th birthday promo in US & Canadian Stores

Well, we HAVE been busy this year!  In conjunction with Anita Week and to celebrate its 20th anniversary, The Body Shop Foundation donated $40,000 to split among six U.S. and Canada charities through an in-store and social media voting contest to raise awareness of the Foundation and our company’s Values.

Held Oct. 11-31, employees and customers in each country voted for one of three charities to win a top prize of $10,000. The second place finisher will receive a $6,000 grant and the organization that receives the third-highest total will receive a guaranteed $4,000.

In the U.S., nearly 95,000 votes were collected from stores and online voting. It was a tight race between the Human Rights and the Animal Protection organizations. The winners are as follows:

1.    Human Rights — U.S. National Coalition Against Domestic Violence <http://www.ncadv.org/> (48 percent)

2.    Animal Protection — Born Free USA <http://www.bornfreeusa.org/ >  (47 percent)

3.    Environmental Protection — Rainforest Foundation <http://www.rainforestfoundation.org/> (5 percent)

In Canada, nearly 46,000 store and online votes were gathered. While the Human Rights organization dominated the voting, the second and third place finishers only had 44 votes separating them.


1.    Human Rights — Canadian Women’s Foundation <http://www.cdnwomen.org/> (40.3 percent)

2.    Animal Protection — Born Free <http://www.bornfreeusa.org/a11_canadian.php> (29.9 percent)

3.    Environmental Protection — Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society <http://www.cpaws.org/> (29.8 percent)

The Foundation promotion created a great connection with our customers and supporters of the charities who saw that our Values sit at the very heart of The Body Shop brand. In addition, the organizations launched viral campaigns to rally their supporters and leverage their networks to vote for them to win the top prize, which drove traffic to our stores and website.
