Anita Award Winner 2010: Alice Francis, Avalon Mall, Newfoundland, Canada
The Americas Region Anita Award winner, Alice Francis, is gearing up to join her three fellow award winners for a trip of lifetime as they head to India today.
“I am beyond ecstatic — my body is literally buzzing!” Alice said. “I still cannot process that I will be departing soon for India. What an amazing gift!”
Alice, a 22-year veteran of The Body Shop and shop manager at the Avalon Mall store in St. John’s, Newfoundland, earned the Anita Award honor because of her passion for The Body Shop Values and her active community involvement. A fun-filled, meaningful schedule
On a self-described “bucket list” trip, Alice will begin her adventure sightseeing in New Delhi on Sunday, Feb. 27. “My heart races when I envision arriving in India and becoming immersed with the sights, sounds, culture and food, and experiencing it all in the company of my fellow Body Shoppers,” she said.
On Monday, the group will visit ECPAT India and meet the TBS India team later in the evening. Alice and the team arrive in Jaipur, India, on Tuesday for some sightseeing and dinner at a cultural village.
On Wednesday, the group will spend the day with the street children of Jaipur. The Body Shop Foundation is currently funding a project to help these children who are living on the street. “We are going to take the children to an amusement park so they can be little kids for the day, which is something they probably don’t get to do very often,” Alice said.

On Thursday, the group will travel to Agra, India, where they will visit one of the world’s most recognizable structures and a must-see place when visiting India — the Taj Mahal.
“I feel privileged that I will see such a monument of love,” Alice said. “When I see the Taj Mahal, I imagine it will feel like a painting that has come alive.”
A surprise is planned for the group on Friday, and then they will head home on Saturday, March 5.
