Update from Lindsey Cox: TBSF Volunteer Award Winner 2010
Started the week on a fantastic flight, and then meeting the rest of the winners and seeing why they deserved to win the award was awesome and humbling.
Landed safely in Delhi and were met by Lisa and Debbie at the airport. We visited historical temples and a mosque yesterday at a cultural heritage sight and then we moved onto Indian Gate which was very moving as it listed the 90,000 people who died in World War 1. We then drove past the president’s palace which makes Buckingham Palace look like a shed in comparison. We drove past elephants and camels on the motorway on the way to the hotel. The driving is organised chaos in which Lisa wants to drive and Debbie needs a triple heart bypass.
We then travelled to Dilli Haat, the most colourful market on earth.; 27 states of India come together to sell their wares. Had a traditional wonderful Indian meal, getting to know each other much better with a lot of banter. Exchanged quite a lot of banter about the India versus England cricket!!!!
It’s amazing – I can’t quite put this into words how I feel, what I’m seeing – its totally unbelievable. The noise, the sounds – its all incredible, so much to take in. I feel incredibly emotional and amazing isn’t a big enough word to explain what’s been happening to date. <insert emotional sounds & snuffling here>
