Anita Award Winners Week: Taabar Case Study

changed-imageHis name is D* (*name has been removed to protect his identity) and he is 11.

D lost his father in early childhood and his mother married another man.  His stepfather often beat and scolded D, causing arguments and a troubled homelife.  So D ran away, catching a train from the farm and arriving in Ballabhgarh where he worked as a child labourer for several days.  He then caught the train to Jaipur, where he got a job cleaning utensils at a hotel near the railway station.

D was found by Taabar and brought to their project.  When he joined the shelter home, he couldn’t read or write.  With caring supervision and the help of those at the Shelter, D began to blossom and started enjoying sewing, drawing and painting.

Before D was found by Taabar, he didn’t have any dreams or aspirations.  Now, D has hope and a vision and, as importantly, the chance of a real childhood.  And its all thanks to Taabar (http://www.taabar.org) and people like you supporting The Body Shop Foundation.  Thanks to you we are able to support groups like this.

So on behalf of us and D, we’d like to say thanks.  We’re think you’re amazing.
