The company celebrates ‘Anita Week’ every year, to keep Anita’s legacy for community involvement & investment alive, recognising individuals, creating local activist and inspire others to, as Anita said, “Do something. Do anything. Just do something!”

Here’s feedback from one of our lovely volunteers – Paul Foster-John from Facilities Department at the Watersmead Head Office – with an update on his recent volunteering experience, down at Brent Lodge Animal Sanctuary in West Sussex:

What a Hoot at Brent Lodge Wildlife Hospital!

The Brent Lodge Anita Week volunteering project has been a stupendous success. From clearing out the animals through to waterproofing the enclosures, there was something for everyone to get involved in!

When we arrived in the morning, we were taken round by the centre staff; Emma, Darren and Rob so see the activities that we were going to be involved in. These ranged from clearance of scrub and cutting back of trees in readiness for an extended enclosure, cleaning out the cages for the patients in the hospital block, repainting of the external enclosures and aviaries ready for winter, cleaning and feeding the patient and resident birds / wildfowl in the aviaries.

The enthusiasm of the volunteers to get going and be involved was truly staggering. Everyone was in the ‘Anita Zone’ displaying the just do something attitude that we are becoming known for and the results paid off and made us all proud.

The Brent Lodge team were astonished at the progress we had made on their behalf and we highly appreciative of our efforts. More than anything else, there was a real sense of fulfilment for the volunteers as we made a huge difference!

Thanks to Paul for getting out there and doing your thing, getting involved and for your feedback.  Let’s hear it for our community activists and if you have any stories, please share them!
