Update: Born Free Foundation
Born Free USA works to end the suffering of wild animals in captivity, rescues individual animals in need, protects wildlife – including highly endangered species – in their natural habitates and encourages compassionate conservation globally.
In addition, they own the Born Free USA Primate Sanctuary that is home to more than 500 non-human primates, many of whom were rescued from abusive situations in laboratoties, roadside zoos and private possesion and are now living in a free-range environment with minimal human interference.
We funded them £10,000 goes towards building two transition enclosures at the Primate Sanctuary in Texas. Rehabilition for traumatised monkeys is a long and difficult process. In many cases the monkeys will be experiencing sunlight, natural earth, trees for climbing and natural water features for the first time in their lives. The two transition enclosures will have plenty of space to ensure the monkeys are given the best chance of rehabilitation before access to the free-range enclosures they will live in.
