We’ve been funding global charities since 1989, giving away over £19 million to fantastic small but vital community projects. We’ve funded some incredible issues and some truly exceptional charities over the years.
Our funding approach means that we cover a broad variety of issues and we’ve drawn from the expertise and wisdom of The Body Shop staff across the globe to help find and fund incredible organisations, essential to the local community.
This year, we’re going one step further to extend our approach. A new product – a Dragon Fruit Lip Butter – is available for sale in participating stores of The Body Shop in over 60 countries across the world, with 100% of the profits going to charitable causes.
During a promotional period in store, every participating country has the opportunity of nominating and funding three charities, on issues that are relevant and really matter them. Who better to tell us the latest issues and pressing needs than the people in that country? The charities chosen must reflect The Body Shop Foundation’s mission: they must be not for profit and address issues that cover each of these areas – animal protection, human rights and environmental protection.
So, we’ve got the issue from the markets. Check. We’ve given the thumbs up to the three charities chosen. Check. So..how do we decide how much the charities get?
Its simple – you do. When you buy a Dragon Fruit Lip Butter, 100% of the profits go to charity. Yep, you read that right – 100%. In the majority of participating stores, you’ll get a voting token, which you can use to vote for the charity that you’d really like to support.
The charity with the most votes will win the most money in this promotion so if you think they do a great job – vote! Every participating charity will receive a donation but it is dependent on the votes they get. Confused? Don’t be….here’s the charitable split process explained neatly, cleaned and all tied up neatly.

Here’s how it works: 75 per cent of the total profits will be divided between local charities in the country where the product is sold. The charity with the most votes gets 50% of the amount raised, 30% is given to the second and 20% goes to the third.
The remaining 25 per cent goes to The Body Shop Foundation’s global grants scheme (have a look and see some of the marvelous projects we’ve funded over the last year; they are truly incredible)
