What exactly IS The Body Shop Foundation?
The Body Shop Foundation is a charitable trust which makes grants to organisations across the world.
What’s the connection between The Body Shop International Plc and The Body Shop Foundation?
The Body Shop International is the Foundation’s main supporter and donor. The Body Shop International gives the Foundation an annual donation of £660,000 and in kind support – like our office space & furniture and also its end of line/discontinued stock. In turn, the Foundation finds exciting & innovative groups to fund globally. It’s a great relationship!
How much do you give away annually?
On top of the company donation we run several fundraising initiatives, so it does vary year on year. Last year, for example, we gave grants of just under £800,000.
However, because we cover the cost of our pens and pencils, it does mean that 100% of the company donation goes directly to the groups themselves.
Where do you get your money from?
On top of the company donation we also run several fundraising initiatives – mainly with stock – which bring in more money for us. The company and its suppliers will give us the product that is earmarked for landfill and we rework it and turn it into more cash to give to more projects.
This is great news as it allows us to cover our small administration costs AND add to the grant giving pot.
How do you choose which projects to support?
For our Global Grants Programme our trustees will decide on a remit for the year ahead and, once approved, our Grants Team will look for groups which fall within this remit and invite them to submit applications. The trustees will then meet to make a final decision on which groups to support.
For our Regional Funding Panels Programmes, each region meets annually with its panel members to select their funding remit for the year ahead. Staff are then invited to put forward nominations for groups that fall within the year’s remit and that they feel could benefit from funding.
